Fertility Acupuncture and Other Women’s Health Concerns

Fertility Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been shown to positively influence fertility treatments, with various studies highlighting its potential benefits. Research indicates that acupuncture can enhance the outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART). A systematic review and meta-analysis found that acupuncture performed on the day of embryo transfer significantly increased the clinical pregnancy rate in women undergoing IVF, suggesting that acupuncture may improve uterine receptivity and blood flow to the uterus and ovaries (Welcome) (Frontiers).

Additionally, acupuncture has been reported to help regulate menstrual cycles and improve ovulation rates in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common cause of infertility. Studies have shown that acupuncture can modulate endocrine function, reduce insulin resistance, and enhance the hormonal balance necessary for ovulation (PLOS). Furthermore, acupuncture has been associated with reducing stress and anxiety levels, which are known to negatively impact fertility and the success rates of fertility treatments (BioMed Central).

Overall, the integration of acupuncture into fertility treatment protocols offers a complementary approach that can enhance reproductive outcomes, potentially providing a valuable adjunct to conventional fertility treatments.

Our acupuncturists Ginna Browning, LAC 312, LMBT 1314 and Allison Bower, NC LAC 2184 specialize in fertility acupuncture. Book a consultation to see how acupuncture can help with fertility.

Women’s Health & Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been demonstrated to positively impact several women’s health issues. Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture can significantly reduce menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhea) and improve overall symptoms associated with this condition. For instance, a review by the Cochrane Collaboration, which included 42 randomized controlled trials with 4640 women, found that acupuncture and acupressure effectively reduced pain scores and had fewer adverse effects compared to NSAIDs and no treatment groups (Welcome). Another study highlighted that acupuncture could provide immediate analgesic effects, potentially through the modulation of pain-related brain regions, as demonstrated by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) (Frontiers).

Additionally, acupuncture has shown promise in managing menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings, with studies indicating significant symptom relief and improved quality of life. The role of acupuncture in enhancing fertility and treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has also been supported by clinical trials, which attribute these benefits to acupuncture’s ability to regulate hormonal balance and improve blood flow (PLOS) (BioMed Central).

These findings suggest that acupuncture is a viable complementary therapy for addressing various women’s health concerns, providing an alternative or adjunctive option to conventional medical treatments.
