Taking care of aging feet

Why do providers at Remedy Clinic spend time working on your feet?

Our feet contain the longest nerves in our bodies. They provide sensory input to your brain telling you where you are and helping you balance.

As we age, our feet tend to become more stiff and difficult to keep healthy.  Foot pain may be associated  neurological decline.

At Remedy Clinic we believe your feet are your foundation. Pliable and springy arches and healthy connective tissue in your feet act as shock absorbers reducing impact to other joints in your body.

Acupunture points in your feet can help increase your sensory awareness and improve your foundation. We will stretch, massage, and put heat on your feet; not only to help with foot pain, but to reduce your risk of falling and improve your quality of life.

We recommend yoga toes (yogatoes.com) to use at home and keep your feet flexible. You begin by wearing them for just a few minutes a day and work your way up to longer times.

Here’s a short video from Katy Bowman, a posture specialist and author, that includes ankle and calf stretches we do ourselves and recommend to patients with tight calves and reduced range of motion in their ankles.

Below are two links to the Tuneup Fitness Massage Balls YouTube channel. We have the Tuneup Fitness Balls available at Remedy Clinic and encourage our patients to utilize them for self care.

This is shorter three minute video for a quickie foot massage. This video is a longer 8 minute routine when you really want to spoil yourself.
